What remains to be shot in 'Yennai Arindhaal'?

With news coming from various corners that Ajith’s grand attraction ‘Yennai Arindhaal’ shoot is still going on, people have started raising doubts and speculations that the Gautham Menon directorial may not hit the Pongal release deadline.

To clear the air, Indiaglitz correspondent contacted the a trustable source close to the film’s unit. The person said the shooting that is going on does not mean shooting as per the generic understanding,. These are only patchworks that are going on. These shots may not necessitate the presence of anyone in the star cast since most of the shots that are taken in this patch work schedule will not depict the actor’s face.  Though we cannot rule of a possibility of a situation that would demand the presence of actor, including stars like Ajith they will have to spend only a few hours and close up shots and shots like checking mobile update etc. will only be taken.

So news on shooting going on means no delay in the release of ‘Yennai Arindhaal’ that Ajith fans are awaiting with bated breath. The star cast includes Trisha, Anushka, Arun Vijay, Vivek and many others. The music album of the film scored by Harris Jayaraj is expected to hit the stores very soon.

Sutrula Review

Mystery draws everyone's attention. Rajesh is on an endeavour to pull everyone's concentration and glue them to the seats of a mystery where a gang of five die mysteriously. But here's the actual picture.

A gang of five, set out on a tour to Ooty. By some mystery, they put to a game of death, one by one, under mysterious conditions. The game starts a few days earlier, when a playboy hunter Johnny, who craves sadism, gets transformed suddenly at the sight of Deepa and falls sincerely in love with her. Unfortunately, he is marooned to the fact that Deepa is in the town for her marriage. He happens to witness the marriage  first hand and is heartbroken at the sight. After a few moments of melancholy, Johnny prepares to avenge the group of friends and Deepa' s husband, who all he considers his enemies. Thus, Johnny kidnaps the four friends and puts them to life threatening situations, cornering the newlyweds, giving them only an hour's time to save those four. Who succeeds in this mission is the rest of the story.

Story is well conceived, but screenplay fails miserably. All the mystery is unveiled already, leaving too little room for the second half. Besides, the movie is slow and quite a drag. The entire cast is already familiar with screen, most with small screen, yet acting is amateur in most part of the film. Not only the flow of story, but also the dialogues are predictable.

Music would have soothed, if only it weren't tuned this loud. Some trivially small matters are magnified as big concerns, like the hero Mahesh's presence (or the lack) of mind over making a phone call from a public booth. Camera and locations are a relief, but graphics take a hitting too. In all, 'Sutrula' is a poorly translated concept.

Rajathandhiram Official Trailer

Can Vikram's I Defeat Ajith's Yennai Arindhaal?

Though it is not fair to compare a movie's teaser with another movie's trailer, it is sometimes passable to do exactly that to gauge the movie's popularity among the fans. Vikram's I (Ai ) trailer was released last night and the trailer has already impressed movie buffs across the country. It has amassed over 1 million views within 24 hours but will it manage to surpass Thala Ajith's Yennai Arindhaal ?

Ajith's Yennai Arindhaal teaser took cyberspace by storm and was continuously trending for almost two days from the time of its release. It defeated the likes of Lingaa, Kaththi and I  pertaining to the number of views and likes these aforementioned big budget movies had for its teaser and trailer alike. It also went on to break records held by Happy New Year and Bang Bang to become India's most liked teaser.

But, Yennai Arindhaal 's teaser record could well be broken by I 's trailer if not by its teaser. The visually stunning I 's trailer has already got 29,403 likes and if this trend continues, it could well get past the views and likes collected by Yennai Arindhaal 's teaser. Currently, Yennai Arindhaal 's teaser figures stands at 4,273,771 views and 86,267 likes.

If I 's trailer manages to get past Yennai Arindhaal 's teaser record, then Ajith Kumar fans would vow to make Yennai Arindhaal 's trailer(when it is released) India's most viewed and most liked trailer of all time. Welcome to the age of internet where the fight for a film's popularity starts right from the release of its teaser.

PK Movie Review: Aamir Khan's Best Performance Till Date

Woohoo... PK is finally here and boy was I excited to watch this masterpiece on the big screen. After five years of sheer hard-work Rajkumar Hirani presented us with yet another cinematic brilliance, PK. 80% of the credit goes to the director for spinning this innovative concept into such an entertaining movie.

The movie has it all, a good plot, script, depth; an out of the box film with a strong message.

Plot:

Much had been debated about the film's plot. Is PK an astronaut, is he an alien or is he a con artist? What is PK movie all about? Much till the screening of the film, the plot had not been revealed, so this may come as a surprise to you, but PK is not an out and out comedy film like how it has been portrayed till date.

The film has a lot of hilarious and fun moments but the hidden social message is what PK is all about. In a way you can say the movie is a satire on God and God fearing men. But it is unlike any typical Bollywood movie that had been based on the same concept as Hirani has ensured to provide us with utmost entertaining experience with this movie.

The plot of the movie starts with an interesting entry by Aamir Khan, if I reveal that you might as well not watch the movie. The second entry is of Jaggu (Anushka Sharma), a Indian journalism student in Bruges, Belgium falling in love with a Pakistani boy, Sarfaraz (Sushant Singh Rajput). Her parents don't approve of this inter-religion love and like the prediction of a 'Tapasvi' (Saurabh Shukla), she gets her heart broken. Dejected she returns to her hometown in India and starts working for a news channel and one fine day she comes across PK (Aamir Khan), a unique and peculiar boy who is fascinated with the many things that happen in our society including the many Gods we pray and the many religions that exist. His wacky dressing sense and lifestyle is a result of him making do of whatever he finds in the dancing car, wondering what it is? Watch the movie and you'll know the meaning of "The Dancing Car".

PK is different and as a result has several questions in his mind which happen to intrigue Jaggu as well. Both of them set out on this journey to get all his questions answered by the tapasvi so that he returns  something of PK that is very precious to the latter, this forms the crux of the story.

Now to know what importance Sushant Singh Rajput, Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani and Saurabh Shukla have in the movie and to know what relation they have with "Namuna or Sample", as Jaggu lovingly calls PK, you have to go watch the movie buddy!

Performances:

I know I am just stating the obvious but Aamir Khan does steal the show with his tube-light eyes and saucer ears, his funny yet perfect Bhojpuri accent and his weird character stands out in the film. There are truly no words to describe his performance and like his daughter and Sachin Tendulkar said, this is his best performance till date.

Anushka Sharma too has essayed her charismatic but cute journalist role well, the short hair looks really good on her. Her love chemistry with Sushant and friendly chemistry with Aamir has been balanced really well.

Boman has a short and sweet role which he has done justice to, even Sanjay Dutt's guest appearance is worth the watch for it bears an important link to the story but we don't approve of Sushant's short role and yearn for the opportunity to see him more.

Technical Aspects:

The story-line of the movie is captivating and there is not a dull moment in the span of 2 hours and 33 minutes. Hirani sneaks upon on you through plenty surprising moments.

The music has been composed by Shantanu Moitra, Ajay-Atul, Ankit Tiwari and Ram Sampath, who have all done a brilliant job with the songs, they stay on your mind and are in perfect sync with the story-line.

The dialogues by Abhijaat Joshi and Rajkumar Hirani are funny and entertaining too. The crisp narration keeps us engrossed in the movie. All in all there is not much to complain about but a whole lot of aspects to praise.

Verdict:

PK movie is all that you anticipated, a paisa-vasool entertaining movie that will enthrall you for sure. PK is a must and should theater watch, so book you tickets soon and catch the movie on the big screen.

Pisasu Review - Pissasified all the way!

Mysskin’s storytelling has always left many in awe; one could say he is the master of making sinister movies. His tryst with experimentation has always left the audience wonderstruck and after YudhamSei, it was evident that Mysskin was here to stay. With Pisasu Mysskin has made strides into the horror genre, getting deep inside to explore the supernatural world.

The Ghost:

As the movie kick starts, there were whispers all around; The usual Mysskin’s movie is shot through the darkness, extensive camera angles with just showing the actors' feet, a dreamy BGM and some psychotic murders. How about Pisasu? Well, the director creeps into the mind of a ghost, scares us with bits and pieces and then feeds us with the psychology behind the setting in a convincing way.

Siddharth (Naga) is an upcoming violinist who comes across an accident, where a young girl dies. The incident leaves a scathing mark on him and he craves to find solace in vain. Mysskin’s magical touch with striking the emotions has always been enigmatic, and through the first few moments he touches the protagonist’s struggle with a loss. As we keep waiting to see the “Pisasu”, a few unpredicted events make Siddharth believe that his house is indeed haunted and as every other Horror movie he hires religious ghost busters, witch crafters to drive the evil spirit off his house.

There is a sense of “Where is the story?”, “What does the ghost want? “ A number of questions unanswered through the first half. With that said, in the second half Mysskin switches to his signature thriller mode from horror, and then finishes off in grand style. The lesser you know, the more you are bound to enjoy it.

What’s Good?:

Mysskin’s love for human emotions and to portray the dark and moody side of it has always been a mystery to tell. To write off Pisasu as a supernatural flick would be a long shot, the movie captures the essence of a horror flick and shifts into an emotional drama without giving us the whim of the transition. In one word, remarkable direction! As any other Mysskin movie, the BGM and camera does wonders to the screenplay, adding rich whipping cream on the top of the story. Arrol is off to a dream debut and the opening song just sweeps our feet off. Ravi’s camera work is stunning, capturing the director’s intention intact. A shot from 40 feet off the ground is just enough to prove the cinematographer’s prowess. To call off Naga as a rookie would be far stretched as the actor looks tailor made for the character of Siddharth. Playing the troubled youngster, he displays the moody emotions spot on. Prayaga has little to offer as the film’s heroine, but does her part amicably. Radha Ravi’s role is an extended cameo and leaves us with a heavy heart.

Why, What and how?:

There isn’t much to point fingers at in Pisasus, nevertheless:

1. The movie’s crisp editing wraps it up in 114 minutes nevertheless the first half finishes without much impact.

2. A lot of scenes are ripped off from Hollywood movies, to quote one; the bedroom scene from Paranormal activity.

3. Though the script has room for scary moments there isn’t much spine chilling moments.

In all Pisasu is an emotional spooky supernatural movie from Mysskin that simply doesn’t try to scare you, but surprises your imagination with unpredictable thrills.

Verdict : Mysskin’s tryst with horror paves off

Vijay Sethupathi's film gets noticed internationally

Pannaiyaarum Padminiyum released in the early part of 2014, had garnered warm responses from the audience and the debutant director Arunkumar was much talked about for his handling of the subject that involved the love of a man towards his four-wheeler. The film was quite fresh in its treatment and the lilting melodies of Justin Prabhakaran and the matured performances of Vijay Sethupathi, Jayaprakash and Thulasi added to the sheen of the film.

Pannaiyaarum Padminiyum has been reaping laurels after laurels in various film festivals that include the Habitat Film Festival, Prague International Film Festival and Jagran Film Festival to name some. In the recently held Bangalore International Film Festival, the film won the Special Jury award in the Indian Cinema category.
